All registered participants and accompanying persons are invited to the welcome party and to the conference excursion.

Welcome reception



The welcome reception will be held at Convento de São Domingos. The convent is located at Largo de São Domingos, 5 minutes walking both from the Castelo de Santiago da Barra congress centre and from the city center. It will include tasting Solar de Merufe green wine (“vinho verde”).
The welcome reception will be held on the evening of July 10th.

Wine tasting

A short wine tasting event will be held at Castelo de Santiago da Barra on wednesday, July 11th, from 7 pm to 7:30. Alvarinho wine of Palácio da Brejoeira will be served.

Conference excursion

The conference excursion will be a guided tour to the historical center of Guimarães, declared World Heritage by UNESCO. Founded in the 4th century, Guimarães became the first capital of Portugal in the 12th century. It is know as the birthplace of the Portuguese Nation, as it was also the hometown of the first king of Portugal, Dom Afonso Henriques, and many important events that led to the independence of the country took place in Guimarães. Its landmarks include the 10th-century castle, the Romanesque church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira (rebuilt 1387-1400), the palace of the Dukes of Bragança (15th century) and the monastery and church of St. Francis with its 18-century decorated tiles. 15 kms North of the city is the Citânia de Briteiros, an Iron Age Settlement and one of Portugal's most interesting archaelogical sites. Guimarães is the European Capital of Culture in 2012.

Conference dinner

The conference dinner will take place on the evening of thursday, July 12th, at Quinta de São João, just 5 kms from the centre of Viana do Castelo. The “Quinta” has a lovely open-air garden with grapevines, various trees and traditional granite benches. It belongs to RestauranteCamelo, well known for serving regional specialties. Quinta de São João has been awarded several gastronomic prizes for the quality of its excellent food.

The participants are required to register to the conference dinner using the registration form.

Departure is scheduled to 19:30 from the congress centre.

Accompanying persons

For now three programs are planned, depending on the number of participants.

Historic Oporto with cruise (70€ per person)
Full day. Price includes transport, guide, all entrances to monuments, lunch and the cruise.




Barcelos and Ponte de Lima (26€ per person)
Half day. Price includes transport and guide.




Santiago de Compostela (74€ per person)
Full day. Price includes transport, guide and entrances. The visit passes in the charming towns of Caminha and Vila nova de Cerveira.




Optional programs for accompanying persons will be prepared and could additionally be arranged with the LOC upon request.
